BABYCAKES is a small Walking Polar bear whose plaintiff facial expression tugs at the heart strings.
His small body is lovingly carved with perfect curves and lines accurate to a young bear.
His small round inset black eyes and nose are the superstars of the sculpture.
They make Babecake's spirit come alive.
Time and remote geography often prevent us from knowing who the carver was.
Also, prior to the 60's, Inuit carvers did not usually sign their pieces.
Even today, carvers do not sign all their sculptures.
What is KNOWN, is the talent required to fashion this magical bear.
Our sweet bear is tired, and alone.
If he could close his eyes and rest for a few minutes. . .
Babycakes' face is a notable example of the devotion to detail.
